Local Business Spotlight – Green Goat Design

I discovered this artist several weeks ago during Viva Street. If you bicycle, cycle or just like their form, check out his bicycle themed jewelry.

“I was inspired by the bicycle. For me, and for many, the bicycle symbolizes a number of things, some prosaic, others, profound. When one considers rising gas prices and the wide implications of oil dependency, witnesses streets and highways choked with cars, the bicycle represents a practical, environmentally and socio-politically beneficial transportation alternative. It’s also a way to stay active, fit, and ready for any bi-o tri-atholon that pops up on my radar at the last minute.

A bicycle represents many things: practicality, courage, adventure, awareness, and joy. A commuter ride during the heat of the day full of encounters with other cyclists creates an entirely different experience than a solitary midnight cruise, accompanied only by the luminescent glow of the moon. While no piece of jewelry can illustrate this, the simplicity of my designs is meant to leave the interpretation up to you and conjure up your favorite memories on your bike.”

Volunteer Opportunity – Art From the Streets

Our Mission:

To provide a safe and encouraging environment in which the positive spirit of homeless people is nurtured through artistic expression, and to provide them with a source of pride and income through the sale of their work.

Our Story:

Art From the Streets is a volunteer-run program that provides a safe and encouraging place where people who are homeless come to draw, paint, and create during free, twice-weekly open studio sessions. The program culminates each year in the Annual Show and Sale, where participants exhibit and sell their work to the public.

Art from the Streets has been the subject of incredible community support and fascination, including Layton Blaylock’s feature-length documentary, Art from the Streets and inclusion on an episode of KLRU’s Emmy-Award Winning Downtown series

We have two main ways to get involved –

  • Our OPEN STUDIO – the heart of Art From the Streets, where people who are homeless come to make art.
  • Our ANNUAL SHOW AND SALE, where the art created through the year is displayed for sale to the public and the proceeds go to the artists.

Yes! I’d like to volunteer!
