2. Parks: National Public Lands Day

National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands including parks, trails, and green spaces. NPLD began nationally in 1994 with three sites and 700 volunteers. It proved to be a huge success and became a yearly tradition, typically held on the last Saturday in September. Since the first NPLD, the event has grown by leaps and bounds. Last year in Austin we had 14 park events with more than 435 volunteers!

NPLD projects can include mulching, removing invasive plants, building and maintaining trails, planting trees and shrubs, or picking up trash. No matter how you lend a hand for NPLD, you’ll be making a difference.

Volunteers are invited to a NPLD after party for lunch in Zilker Park and will be entered to win one of 25 pairs of 3-Day Passes to the Austin City Limits Music Festival. The raffle drawing will be held at the after party.

Save the Date for NPLD 2013

Save the Date: September 28. This year marks the 20th anniversary of NPLD. Join, APF and the Texas Conservation Corp for a day of service.
